SpiritualWolf38 23
This is for anyboy who plays this game. The article Post: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2016/03/02/spintires-sabotage-timebombs/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+rockpapershotgun%2Fsteam+%28Rock%2C+Paper%2C+Shotgun%3A+Steam+RSS%29 But this is what it reads about it. Spintires [official site], the splendid game of mud and massive vehicles, appears to have been intentionally damaged by its creator Pavel Zagrebelnyj. We reported on the troubles that were brewing at Oovee last year. In short, financial disagreements and Pavel’s claims that he couldn’t update the game as he wanted to had caused a division between developer and publisher. Now, players are reporting crashes and the malfunctioning pieces of code appear to have been intentionally placed – ‘timebombs’, triggered at set times or dates. There’s a fix. For the game, if not for Pavel and Oovee. The long version of the story is yet to be told but the short version is in the paragraph above. It’s impossible to state facts regarding the specifics of the disagreements between Oovee and Pavel without seeing contracts or being privy to conversations. Indeed, some of the problems seem to relate to a lack of communication, with Pavel telling Eurogamer last week: “They owe me a s***load of money according to our contract. But I don’t have any leverage because my judicial skills are zero. I haven’t had a meaningful communication with Oovee for many months (maybe a year).” For their part, Oovee are mostly sticking to ‘no comment’, telling Eurogamer that, “He has been paid as in his contract” and that further details are under NDA. And so, seemingly out of frustration with the situation, Pavel has reportedly slashed the tires of his own game. I’m somewhat accustomed to multiplayer games dying as time goes on and the playerbase seeks new sensations, but for a game to be terminated in this way is very unusual. Spintires might seem like an obscure game – a simulation of grinding engines and mud – but it was a top seller on Steam and Steamspy logs over a 100,000 users over the last fortnight, from around 750,000 owners. Spintires is a splendid game about massive vehicles churning up the environment in a Sisyphean slog through mud and gravel, and it’d be a terrible shame if the single programmer behind its development were left in the cold. But it’d also be a terrible shame if the game were erased from existence, the audience punished for the actions (perceived or actual) of the publisher and the reaction of the developer. For now there’s a fix, which has always been through four iterations to catch new code changes. This is not an official download so caveats apply – you’re downloading and applying it at your own risk. There are other options detailed on this reddit thread, including a workaround involving internal CPU date and time manipulation. Because the code changes were triggered as timebombs, presumably so that they could be inserted into the game ahead of time rather than requiring access to the code once the relationship had entirely broken down, resetting to a time before the last update appears to function as a workaround. As recently as the Eurogamer interviews on February 24th, both Oovee and Pavel were talking about future development plans. “I don’t know if my new features would be updates to Spintires or part of a new game or franchise, but I have at least one or two years of work ahead before I switch to something else,” he adds. “New features include snow, a larger view distance, nicer skyboxes, rain, wind, tracked vehicles, realistic soft wheels simulation and vehicle collision model similar to [fellow vehicle sim] BeamNG.” Tony Fellas at Oovees maintains that Pavel and his team have been working hard on the game: “Pavel was working on the game when it was updated in December, having done very well to manage the release of both the truck and map editor before the Christmas holiday”, but adds that, “Pavel is often upset, I’m afraid that geniuses are often like that.” He goes on to say that the company “are in the final legal stages of completing some new paths forward and expect to be able to announce details in the forthcoming weeks”, leading to “a great future for the Spintires game” and “franchise”. We’ll contact Oovee and Pavel for comment. Link to comment https://www.baysidegamers.com/forums/topic/418-spintires-sabotage/ Share on other sites
Management Team EmpireKicking 155 Posted March 4, 2016 Management Team Share Posted March 4, 2016 Spintires has been pulled form sale on steam. There are ppl like me a guy called mendel and another guy called thunder duck saw all this hanping 6 months after launch. Mendel dug up a bunch of shady ♥♥♥♥ long ago. it was all in a 1000+ post thread that strangly has vanished from steam. How ever ♥♥♥♥♥♥ i am at ovee and to a lesser a degree pavel ( what pavel did was wrong but i rpbably would have done much worse but to ovee not the players, he most lilkley figured doing this would sink ovee and bury them in ♥♥♥♥) it kinda worth the lost money just for the comedy and irony of all those fan boys going apeshit anytime anyone said a bad word about ovee. And credit where its due ovee got them selves some epic fanboys who defended them right to the bitter end. But i think its safe to say evryone finally knows its as over now as it was 18months ago. try for the refund its a good idea, maybe valve losing i ♥♥♥♥ load of money will prompt them to take ovee to court, maybe our names get tacked on and the players get some free ♥♥♥♥ i dunno how the law works ony how to avoid it. Maybe the rooms full of backward chinless wonders the UK call the goverment will do what they are suposed to and pull ovees owners for all this umbrela company, finace ♥♥♥♥ i dont undersatnd, robing ppl blind ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t.Ovee goes broke and smug batsrds who own it end up on welfare, i like poetic justice best of all. First of all how is it bigtory when its all fact? Fact is 3 out of 4 ppl involved are brits not russian. Fact the British empire mauraded its way around the world exploiting or destroying the indigineous ppl (my OPINION is they have exploited pavel). Fact is carving up the arab states the way they did is mostly what is it fault for the sate of the middle east right now? Fact is british ppl bear responsibilty for the goverment they elect.Fact is they nearly destroyed india whe they left.how is that bigoted? Facts are bias? You assume im ignorant but im not, i oviusly know a lot more of british history than you. Is is knowing history being a bigot? Pointing out facts 99% of the orld already knows bigotry? i can also name quite a few groups of ppl who have done great harm. You also contradict your sleff you say im british yet you say i know nothing about them despit living there for the first 20 yrs of my life. Also i dont think you know what a eltist is and i didnt say evryone else is one just you. your attitude stinks of "i know bettter than evryone im so wise and they arent, i pity them" It will take more than 6 lines sophystry and hyperboles to make your point of view valid or even look plausable. Fact is you know about as much about me as you do broitish history and leave it at that. Also why so eager to turn the thread from spintires? Your brought up bigotry not me and then again after i tried to go back to spintires. My original statement was to do with spintires but you keep trying to make this thread about me? im flattred but for the second time now i think we should keep this to talking abuout spintires, not spouting off trying to look clever.
