I actually feel like it certainly can be much worse as many of the ways to intervene and handle bullying do not work online.  This is even worse for kids who can depend on their parents to stop adults from bullying their kids IRL but have no ability to do the say online.  It also allows workarounds to avoid school policies and their ability to stop school bullying.  Plus you also have the added challenge of people outside of the entire nation you live in and such.  Ya, IRL bullying can ramp up and be much more destructive in a short period of time, but cyberbullying can be an endless thorn that keeps getting worse for essentially forever.

I don't know how people are cyber-bullied, honestly.  All you have to do is shut things off.   Well, the only exception would be bullying by people who demand you keep in touch with them online - or else.

In regards to physical bullying, it can hurt or kill you.   It's not the same as words, but the destruction of relationships and threat of suicide (from verbal abuse) can be just as bad.

Online bullying doesn't hold much water for me because it's very easy for me to use the BLOCK feature on each of the social media platform the said bulling is happening. In real life, it's not so much easy. So, it's much of a big deal offline when it comes to bullying.
